My B-tech year 2015

Halooo..
My name is Rona-Celia Meyer and I am doing my B-tech in Interior Design at NMMU. The year is about discovering yourself, or that is how it feels to me. Designing something you like and doing it for a year can be challenging, but if it is something you love - it will always be worth it!

I am designing an Alzheimer's home, because I am a family orientated person and love to help people. Everything about people draws me in.. I hope to design a space where Alzheimer patients can be free to explore new things and create the optimal living environment...

Here is my process throughout the year...

The Thesis...

For our B-Tech year we are writing at thesis on your design. We have to research theories that will back your design ideas... The theories for my project is naturally Alzheimer's, Contemporary Art Therapy like art, drama, music and literature... My final theory is where the abstract part simmers through... which is multi sensory stimulation - awakening all 5 senses which is taste, smell, sight, touch and hearing... this is where the Snoezelen rooms comes to play - a room that stimulates all five senses... too coollll;)

These are examples of Snoezelen Rooms = i want one...
Snoezelen Rooms can have different themes, that allows for different types of stimulation through textures, materials etc.

Research have shown that Snoezelen Rooms can enhance the quality of life for Alzheimer patients, encourage more communication and gives a feeling of relaxation and satisfaction...
